Introduction
We get SO many questions from people on whether they should be using a Tabbed Brief (Diaper) or a Pull Up. We decided it’s time to address this question on our website and provide some simple guidelines to help you figure out which is right for you!
Using Different Products Throughout the Day
Before we begin, always remember that you don’t just have to use one type of incontinence product 24/7. We have many customers that use as many as 3 different types of products in a 24-hour period. For example, we have had one customer for years and he uses a Bladder Control Pad during the day when he is at home (and can often make it to the bathroom without much leakage). He prefers the Pull Up when he goes out of the house for additional confidence (and because you never know what the restroom situation will be when you are out!). At night he likes the extra protection that a Tabbed Brief offers when he may have more than one episode (and may not wake up to go to the bathroom).
Pull Ups
OK… let’s start with the Pull Up:
- This type of product works pretty much like your own underwear. It has an elastic waist band to keep the product snug to your waist, but also allows you to pull the product up and down as needed for toileting.
- This is typically the most popular product for people living with Bladder Leakage that exceeds what most Bladder Control Pads can offer absorbency-wise.
- This is not the most appropriate product if you are regularly having Bowel-related incontinence.
- People that are active but living with more significant bladder leakage have great success with this type of product… and they have tear-away sides for easy disposal.
Tabbed Briefs (Diapers)
Now… the Tabbed Brief:
- This product is held to the body with special fasteners (sometimes these are tape, sometimes “Velcro”, and sometimes both!)
- This type of product is generally reserved for the person that has heavy bladder leakage and/or regular bowel-related incontinence.
- Many of our customers choose this option at night when it may be more likely to sleep through more than one leakage incident.
- If you or your loved one tends to be in bed quite a bit or in a wheelchair, this product offers extended protection and a much easier changing process for people in this situation.
- Most of the product options for this type of product allow you to adjust the tape and/or “Velcro” tabs throughout the wear-time to keep the product snug to your body.
